Monterey was the first capital of California. During the Gold Rush, San Francisco surpassed it to become the most important city in the territory. I stopped by to experience some of its extensive history. I thought about going to the highly regarded aquarium, but the admission was greater the my interest level. I did poke around to of the tourist shopping enclaves, Fisherman's Wharf & Cannery Row.
