Last weekend, my friend Dan invited me up to Boulder for a bike ride. I had been pretty focused on finding a place to live, settling in, and starting my job search so it was a very welcome invitation. He picked a pretty modest route to introduced me to biking in Colorado. There were some short climbs, but nothing more strenuous than I could find in Pennsylvania. We rode from his apartment north along US-36 to the small town of Lyons. To the left were the foothills of the Rocky Mountains; the right, the high plains. The fall colors with splendid. Lots of bright yellows from the cottonwoods. In Lyons we took a break and order snacks at a coffeehouse. We rode east for several miles before turning south on to much quieter backgrounds. Along the way we some some parachutists and later a newlywed couple in a horse-drawn carriage. We got back to his apartment shortly after sunset and then headed to a sports bar to watch some great college football games.
